Meet Dr. Leon Levinsky at Sterling Heart Care in Buffalo, NY

Dr. Levinsky joins Sterling Heart Care with extensive experience in cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, and clinical research. He has worked closely with External Counter Pulsation technology for nearly two decades. Dr. Levinsky attended medical school at Guys Hospital Medical School in London. He completed his residency in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Beilinson Hospital Medical Center in Israel where he became the Deputy Head of the Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Department.

Dr. Levinsky came to Buffalo in 1979 as a Special Fellow in the Cardiac Surgery Program at what was then Children’s Hospital of Buffalo. From there he took on several prominent roles serving the healthcare needs of the WNY community. He served as Chief of Surgery and Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Buffalo VA Medical Center, Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at SUNY Buffalo, Attending Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Buffalo General Hospital, and Medical Director of the Cardiac Device Management Department at Buffalo General Hospital.

“I am very excited to be joining Sterling Heart Care as their Medical Director. There is no question that procedures in the OR and Cath Lab are a core component of the treatment for cardiovascular disease, and WNY has some of the best cardiologists and surgeons in the nation to perform such procedures. However, I believe that noninvasive treatments like ECP Therapy and Cardiac Rehabilitation are essential to the continuum of care. This is especially true for patients who qualify for ECP Therapy. Since these patients are not candidates for the state of the art procedures being performed in our excellent local hospitals, ECP Therapy is often their only treatment option. I encourage my fellow physicians to learn more about Sterling Heart Care and the great benefits of ECP Therapy and to reflect on which of their patients would benefit from it. I have no doubt that there are many patients who would be eternally grateful to their doctor for referring them to Sterling Heart Care.”
